Termite Treatments

Finding active termites is only the beginning. The next step is choosing a treatment and management approach suited to the termite activity, building construction and existing protection at the property.

Lethal Pest Control provides professional termite treatments across the Gold Coast, including remedial treatments, termite baiting and monitoring, treated soil zones and ongoing termite-management options.

With more than 15 years of hands-on pest and termite experience, we explain the recommended treatment, how it works and any monitoring or follow-up required before work begins.

The Right Termite Treatment Starts with the Property

Termite treatment is not simply a matter of applying the same product to every building.

The termite species, location and extent of activity, building construction, access, previous treatments and existing termite-management measures can all influence the options available.

A property with localised accessible activity may require a different response from a building with concealed entry, widespread activity or an existing management system that needs to be restored or supplemented.

That is why professional termite treatment starts with understanding the evidence and the property before deciding how the infestation and ongoing risk should be managed.

Treating Active Termites

When active termites are identified, remedial treatment may be used to target accessible termite activity before or as part of a broader termite-management program.

Depending on the location and circumstances, treatment methods can include professional termite foams, dusts, targeted liquid applications or baiting.

The objective is not simply to kill the termites visible at the time of inspection. Termite activity can extend beyond the area that can be seen, which is why the treatment needs to consider the wider infestation and the building.

Avoid disturbing live termite activity or applying household insecticides before professional inspection and treatment. Disturbance can cause termites to retreat from the visible area and make the activity more difficult to assess and manage.

Termite Baiting & Monitoring

Termite baiting and monitoring can provide an effective management option for suitable Gold Coast properties.

In-ground monitoring stations are installed around the property and inspected at scheduled intervals for termite activity. When termites enter a station, termite bait can be introduced and monitored as part of the management program.

Lethal Pest Control uses professional termite baiting and monitoring systems, including Trelona where appropriate.

Stations are positioned according to the property and system requirements, with ongoing inspection and servicing forming an important part of the program.

Termite baiting is not a set-and-forget treatment. Regular monitoring is required so activity within the system can be identified and managed.

Above-Ground Termite Baiting

Where suitable live termite activity is accessible, above-ground baiting may be used as part of the treatment program.

Bait is positioned directly at or close to active termite workings, allowing feeding termites to access the bait while the area remains as undisturbed as possible.

Above-ground baiting may be used on its own in a particular treatment stage or alongside other termite-management methods, depending on the activity and property.

Ongoing inspection is important so termite feeding and treatment progress can be monitored.

Treated Soil Zones

A treated soil zone can form part of a termite-management strategy by treating soil around relevant areas of the building.

Depending on construction and access, installation can involve trenching, soil treatment and drilling through suitable concrete or paved areas to reach soil beneath.

The objective is to establish a continuous treated zone in the areas being managed, using a registered professional termite product in accordance with its label directions.

Building additions, landscaping, excavation, new paving, plumbing work or other disturbance can affect an existing treated zone. Any significant work around a treated building should therefore be considered as part of ongoing termite management.

Ongoing Termite Management

Treating active termites and managing future termite risk are related, but they are not the same thing.

Once active termite treatment has been addressed, the property may require an ongoing management strategy. This can include monitoring and baiting systems, treated soil zones, existing physical or chemical systems, or a combination of measures.

The appropriate approach depends on the construction and existing protection at the property.

No termite-management system makes a building permanently immune to termite attack. Regular professional termite inspections remain important regardless of the system installed.

Monitoring & Follow-Up

Termite management does not necessarily end when the initial treatment is completed.

Some treatments require follow-up inspections to assess activity and treatment progress. Baiting and monitoring systems require ongoing servicing, while treated zones and other management systems should remain part of the property’s regular termite-inspection program.

We explain the follow-up requirements associated with the treatment provided so you know what needs to happen next.

If building work, landscaping or other changes may affect termite protection around the property, further assessment may also be required.

Regular Termite Inspections Still Matter

A successful termite treatment addresses the termite problem or management requirement identified at that time. It does not guarantee that termites can never approach or attack the property again.

Termites can establish new activity, find concealed entry points and approach a building from areas unrelated to previous infestations.

Regular professional termite inspections help identify new evidence, changes around the property and conditions that may affect termite risk or existing protection.
